SEC Names New Inspector General
The SEC named Kevin Muhlendorf as the agency's next Inspector General.
Mr. Muhlendorf, a former Assistant Chief in the Securities and Financial Fraud Unit at the Justice Department, comes to the agency from a private law firm where he served as partner in the white-collar defense and government investigations practice. According to the SEC release, Mr. Muhlendorf "regularly conducted sensitive internal investigations and provided compliance counseling for clients." On secondment from the firm, he also served as Acting Inspector General for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.
Acting Inspector General Katherine Reilly will step down as of July 28, 2025. Ms. Reilly served in the role since May and will return to her position as Deputy Inspector General.
