Senate Confirms Four CFTC Commissioners

Commentary by Nihal Patel

The U.S. Senate confirmed Christy Goldsmith Romero, Kristin N. Johnson, Summer Kristine Mersinger, and Caroline D. Pham to serve as CFTC Commissioners.

Chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Ranking Member, U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-Ark.) supported the confirmations. Senator Stabenow noted that "this confirmation makes history" because "all four nominees are women, and three of whom are women of color." Senator Boozman emphasized the unanimous nature of the confirmations and the nominees' "high qualifications" to serve as CFTC commissioners.

Commentary

The CFTC currently has only two commissioners. It will now have a full group of five, along with Chairman Rostin Behnam.
