President Biden Nominates Key Financial Regulators

President Joseph R. Biden sent nominations to the Senate to fill key regulatory positions. On January 4, and January 7, 2022, the President named all of the nominees, including:

  • For FTC Commissioner - Alvaro M. Bedoya, of Maryland, for a term of seven years from September 26, 2019, replacing Rohit Chopra, term expired.
  • For Chair of the Federal Reserve Board - Jerome H. Powell, of Maryland, for a term of four years (reappointment).
  • For Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve Board - Lael Brainard, of the District of Columbia, for a term of four years, replacing Richard Clarida.
  • For CFTC Commissioner - Kristin N. Johnson, of Michigan, for a term expiring April 13, 2025, replacing Brian D. Quintenz, term expired.
  • For CFTC Commissioner - Christy Goldsmith Romero, of Virginia, for the remainder of the term expiring April 13, 2024, replacing Heath P. Tarbert.
  • For CFTC Commissioner - Summer Kristine Mersinger, of South Dakota, for the remainder of the term expiring April 13, 2023, replacing Dan Michael Berkovitz.
  • For CFTC Commissioner - Caroline D. Pham, of New York, for a term expiring April 13, 2027, replacing Dawn DeBerry Stump, term expiring.
  • For Federal Housing Finance Agency Director - Sandra L. Thompson, of Maryland, for a term of five years, replacing Mark Anthony Calabria.
