The CFTC announced that the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California entered an order of default judgment and permanent injunction against The Trade Tech Institute, Inc., Technology Trading International, Inc., and Robert Sorchini, all of Los Angeles. Financial Services Authority June 20, 2012 Two directors of Blue Index, a specialist CFD brokerage house, and the wife of one of the directors have been sentenced to a total of five years in prison for insider dealing. The trio were involved in a transatlantic conspiracy to use UK spread bets to trade ahead of tech deals in the US based on illegal tip-offs. The case is the first ever to involve prosecutions on both sides of the Atlantic, with the SEC, the DoJ and the FBI investigating in the US, and the City of London Police and the FSA investigating in the UK.
Yesterday the SEC charged Tai Nguyen, the owner of the California-based equity research firm Insight Research, with insider trading. The charges stem from the SEC’s ongoing investigation of insider trading involving so-called “expert networks” that provide specialized information to investment firms.
