CFPB Requests Information on Guidance Materials and Activities

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ("CFPB") issued a Request for Information ("RFI") on the agency's industry guidance materials and activities. The CFPB is seeking feedback on (i) the accessibility and effectiveness of existing guidance, (ii) potential improvements to methods of delivering guidance, and (iii) suggestions for new forms of written guidance.

The CFPB identified several areas of focus, including:

  • the Regulatory Inquiries Function, through which the CFPB provides informal assistance to inquirers with specific questions about statutes and rules;

  • implementation and compliance aids, such as compliance guides, rule summaries and webinars;

  • official interpretations and standalone interpretive rules; and

  • guidance relating to enforcement and supervision priorities.

The RFI was published in the Federal Register on April 2, 2018. Comments will be accepted until July 2, 2018.
