Blockchain Association Urges Senate to Confirm Nominee to Lead OCC
Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger called for the swift confirmation of Jonathan Gould as Comptroller of the Currency.
In a letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune, Ms. Mersinger said there was an urgent need for a leader to be in place at the OCC ahead of the expected passage of the "GENIUS" Act ("Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins").
Ms. Mersinger, a former CFTC Commissioner, emphasized that "[t]he successful implementation of the GENIUS Act," which assigns the OCC primary regulatory authority over stablecoin issuers and requires the agency to finalize related rules within one year, "depends on the leadership and vision of experienced, Senate-confirmed principals."
She described Mr. Gould as a regulator with a "proven track record of thoughtful financial oversight."
