Senators Question CFPB on Deletion of Consumer-Protection Webpages
Senate Democrats demanded the CFPB explain why consumer protection information was deleted from the agency's website.
In their letter to the acting director of the CFPB, Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren, and Senators Raphael Warnock, Andy Kim, and Lisa Blunt Rochester said the CFPB removed website and newsroom material published before February 2025 - including press releases, testimony, speeches, consumer advisories, settlement notices, research, and major reports - and that it had taken down all 35 of its Supervisory Highlights reports summarizing its oversight of financial institutions since 2012. The Senators said that the CFPB had published no new advisories under the current leadership.
The legislators demanded to know who decided what to remove and why, whether the CFPB had contacted companies named in deleted settlement notices or advisories beforehand, whether it would keep publishing advisories and Supervisory Highlights, and whether it would restore the deleted material.
The Senators also questioned the CFPB's dismissal of dozens of enforcement actions since February 2025.
