President Trump Signs EO Mandating Deregulation

Steven Lofchie Commentary by Steven Lofchie

President Trump signed an Executive Order ("EO") requiring federal agencies to repeal "at least 10 existing rules, regulations, or guidance documents" for every new rule or regulation created.

The EO directs the Office of Management and Budget to ensure a standardized approach to measuring regulatory costs and mandates that the total incremental cost of new regulations in fiscal year 2025 be "significantly less than zero."

The EO builds on President Trump's first term regulatory reduction effort, where his Administration asked agencies to eliminate two regulations for each one new regulation issued.
