SEC Commissioner Jaime Lizárraga will step down as SEC Commissioner, effective January 17, 2025.

In his public statement, Mr. Lizárraga reflected on his 34-years of public service journey, and said he would "remain fully engaged in the Commission's ongoing work and activities" until his departure.

In a separate statement, SEC Chair Gary Gensler commended Mr. Lizárraga as a "dedicated public servant focused on the interests of working families for more than three decades" and "an excellent partner in our work to protect investors, facilitate capital formation, and ensure markets work for investors and issuers alike."

Commentary

The SEC previously reported that Chair Gary Gensler will step down from the SEC effective at 12:00 pm on January 20, 2025. (See related coverage.)

Commissioner Lizárraga's resignation means that there will be a Republican majority at the SEC from the first day of the new President's term. Accordingly, the SEC can get right to work on rulemaking, or potentially rule repeals, without being caught in a 2-2 stalemate.
