SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda Sworn-In for Second Term

Steven Lofchie Commentary by Steven Lofchie

SEC Commissioner Mark T. Uyeda was sworn into office for a second term. His new term on the Commission expires in 2028.

Mr. Uyeda first became Commissioner in June 2022, filling a vacant seat formerly held by Elad Roisman. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Uyeda served as an advisor to two former Commissioners, Michael Piwowar and Paul Atkins.

Commentary

Commissioner Uyeda has been a persistent critic of the SEC's rulemaking process under SEC Chair Gensler. (His views on process often align with those of Commissioner Hester M. Peirce.) Perhaps his most powerful statement on the subject was linked to the following news story: Commissioner Uyeda Warns SEC Against Flawed Rulemaking Process. But he has been consistent (see, e.g, Commissioner Uyeda Urges SEC to Improve Rulemaking ProcessSEC Commissioner Uyeda Urges Greater Clarity over Securities Law Terms and GuidanceSEC Commissioner Uyeda Warns of Increased Compliance Burdens Driven by Rapid Rulemaking; SEC Commissioner Uyeda Criticizes "Unrealistic" Regulatory Approach).
