Nine Additional Senators Support Bipartisan Bill on Digital Assets

Nine additional Senators joined a bipartisan coalition in support of the "Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act."

The Act, which would bring digital assets within the Bank Secrecy Act's AML/CFT regulatory framework, was reintroduced in August 2023 by Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC). (See previous coverage.)

The new co-sponsors of the bill include Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chair Dick Durbin (D-IL), Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Tina Smith (D-MN) and Senators Gary Peters (D-MI), Angus King (I-ME), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Bob Casey (D-PA), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Cather Cortez (D-NV).

In a press release, Senator Warren called the bill the "toughest proposal on the table cracking down on crypto's illicit use and giving regulators more tools in their toolbox."
