FTC Establishes Office of Technology

The FTC established an Office of Technology in order to "strengthen the FTC's ability to keep pace with technological challenges in the digital marketplace by supporting the agency's law enforcement and policy work."

According to the FTC, the office will (i) support agency investigations into business practices and their underlying technologies, (ii) work with staff to provide technological expertise on non-enforcement actions and (iii) engage with the public and external stakeholders to identify key trends and best practices. The office will be headed by FTC Chief Technology Officer Stephanie T. Nguyen.

The FTC voted 4-0 in favor of creating the office.
