SEC Chief Data Officer Issues FY 2022-2026 Data Strategy
Chief Data Officer ("CDO") Austin Gerig outlined the SEC data strategy for fiscal years 2022 through 2026. The strategy is intended to drive implementation of certain statutory requirements and to improve "the management and use of data at the SEC." The CDO strategy includes:
-
maximizing the SEC's use of data tools and infrastructure by increasing accessibility and usability of disclosure data;
-
developing a data infrastructure to better integrate data and analytics services and establish uniform data and data architecture standards;
-
improving data literacy at the SEC and promoting data-driven decision-making by building on the SEC's existing data catalog;
-
implementing case-oriented data management practices to (i) simplify data governance, (ii) improve data protection and (iii) remediate data quality issues; and
-
establishing a framework to assess the value, cost and risk of (i) agency data acquisition and retention plans, (ii) data services infrastructure and (iii) data usage controls.
Mr. Gerig also provided a roadmap for implementing each goal in three phases but said that the SEC plans to work with agency stakeholders to develop a final implementation plan.
