CFTC Says Enforcement Outcomes Generated Over $2.5 Billion in fiscal year 2022

The CFTC said it recouped over $2.5 billion in restitution, disgorgement and civil monetary penalties as a result of enforcement actions in fiscal year 2022.

In its annual enforcement actions report, the CFTC said it filed 82 enforcement actions during the fiscal year, the majority of which involved fraud, reporting or recordkeeping violations or failure to register/off-exchange offerings. The CFTC highlighted the importance of the Division of Enforcement's Whistleblower Program, noting that during fiscal year 2022, the CFTC issued a record-breaking award that granted nearly $200 million to a single whistleblower. The total penalties recovered from whistleblower-involved actions are over $3 billion to date. The CFTC also issued 18 enforcement actions relating to digital assets, according to the report.
