Treasury Requests Comment on Illicit Finance Risks in Digital Assets
Treasury issued a Request for Comment ("RFC") on digital asset-related illicit finance and national security risks, as well as its publicly released action plan to address those risks. The RFC is part of Treasury's larger effort to ensure responsible regulation under EO 14067 ("Ensuring Responsible Development of Digital Assets").
Treasury is seeking input, data and recommendations relevant to its "ongoing efforts to assess the illicit finance risks associated with digital assets as well as the ongoing efforts to mitigate the risks." The RFC specifically asks commenters to respond to questions relating to (i) illicit finance risks, (ii) AML/CFT-related regulation and supervision, implementation of global standards and private sector engagement and (iii) effective incorporation of Central Bank Digital Currencies.
Comments are due by November 3, 2022.
