OFAC Issues New FAQ on Certain Iranian Sanctions

In a new FAQ, OFAC addressed the treatment under Executive Order ("E.O.") 13902 ("Imposing Sanctions With Respect to Additional Sectors of Iran") of Iranian manufacturers who provide humanitarian goods.

As previously covered, E.O. 13902 authorized secondary sanctions against individuals or companies anywhere in the world who operate in certain sectors of the Iranian economy. In new FAQ 830, OFAC's stated that it would not target persons in Iran manufacturing humanitarian goods, such as "medicines, medical devices, or products used for sanitation or hygiene" - provided that the products are solely for use in Iran and not exported.
