Steven Lofchie Commentary by Steven Lofchie

The SEC named Brett Redfearn as Director of the Division of Trading and Markets. The Division is responsible for overseeing the major securities market participants and infrastructure.

Mr. Redfearn most recently worked as Global Head of Market Structure for J.P. Morgan. He previously worked for the American Stock Exchange, and has served on the Boards of BATS Global Markets, the Chicago Stock Exchange, BIDS Trading and the National Organization of Investment Professionals.

Commentary

The new Director faces many big challenges including rules to regulate security-based swaps and security-based swap dealers, a long-awaited revisit of Regulation NMS, and the re-examination of Regulation SHO.
