CFPB Appoints New Leaders

Steven Lofchie Commentary by Steven Lofchie

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ("CFPB") appointed a new senior leadership team. The announcement identified the following appointments: Leandra English, Chief of Staff; Jerry Horton, Chief Information Officer; Elizabeth Reilly, Chief Financial Officer; John McNamara, Assistant Director of Consumer Lending, Reporting, and Collections Markets; and Paul Kantwill, Assistant Director for Servicemember Affairs.

Commentary

Why is the CFPB making new appointments just before a change in administrations? The appointments seem inappropriate, since the incoming administration hasn't decided whether the head of the CFPB will remain in place. If a new bureau head is appointed, then that person should be allowed to choose his or her own staff.
