CFTC Awards Whistleblower for Information Leading to Enforcement Action

The CFTC awarded approximately $50,000 to a whistleblower who provided information that assisted the CFTC in an enforcement action. The original information provided by the whistleblower spurred the launch of the investigation against the defendants.

In a press release, the CFTC noted that this action constitutes the fourth award in the CFTC Whistleblower Program. It is the third award made in the last ten months. The CFTC underscored that the award is between 10% and 30% of the monetary sanctions collected to date. The CFTC communicated that granting this award should incentivize similarly situated whistleblowers to provide original information and that awarding whistleblowers enhances the agency's ability to enforce the Commodities Exchange Act.
