U.S. and European Financial Services Trade Associations Issue Joint Statement on TTIP
SIFMA and EU trade associations issued a joint statement in support of a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership ("TTIP") that includes financial services regulatory coordination in advance of the March 26, 2014, EU-U.S. Summit attended by the U.S. President, European Council President and European Commission President. The organizations stated that the Summit is "a critical opportunity to strengthen the transatlantic relationship, build trust, enhance coordination, reduce conflict and confusion, and improve the efficiency of regulations across jurisdictions for the benefit of regulators and the regulated alike." Furthermore, the joint statement noted, the alternative approach of creating divergent regulation could potentially damage global growth, job creation and investment.
