SIFMA CEO and President Bentsen Delivers Remarks on Cybersecurity and Current Market Structure Reform
At the SIFMA Tech Conference, SIFMA CEO and President Kenneth Bentsen delivered opening remarks about cybersecurity issues and the state of the U.S. equity markets.
Mr. Bentsen explained that, as cyber risks grow, Congress must take action and pass legislation that "removes some of the red tape and makes it easier for the private sector and government agencies to work together and share information that promotes resiliency of our markets."
Additionally, Mr. Bentsen stated, while many investors benefited from the adoption of Reg. NMS in 2006, the continued evolution of the U.S. equity market structure has raised concerns about the regulation's current applicability. Mr. Bentsen added that SIFMA and its members called for a holistic review of the U.S. equity market structure, and explained that SIFMA has also launched its own review of the current market structure regarding issues involving transparency, governance and market fragmentation.
