CFTC Global Markets Advisory Committee to Discuss Mandatory FX Clearing and Bitcoin
The CFTC announced that the Global Market Advisory Committee will hold a public meeting on October 9, 2014 at the CFTC headquarters in Washington, D.C. to discuss issues related to non-deliverable forwards ("NDFs") and bitcoins.
The meeting will feature two panels, the first of which will discuss whether a clearing mandate is appropriate for NDFs, with a particular focus on how such a mandate would affect foreign exchange contracts. The second panel will discuss the CFTC's jurisdiction with respect to derivatives contracts that reference bitcoin.
