CFTC Announces Sponsors for Advisory Committees

The CFTC announced the sponsors of Advisory Committees that were created to seek input and make recommendations to the CFTC on a variety of regulatory and market issues that affect the integrity and competitiveness of U.S. markets. The sponsors include:

  • Chairman Tim Massad, as sponsor of the Agricultural Advisory Committee, which advises the CFTC on matters involving the trading of agricultural commodity futures, options and swaps, and facilitates communications among the CFTC, the agricultural community and agriculture-related organizations;
  • Commissioner J. Christopher Giancarlo, as sponsor of the Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee, which advises the CFTC on matters of concern to exchanges, firms, end users and regulators regarding energy and environmental markets and their regulation by the CFTC;
  • Commissioner Sharon Bowen, as sponsor of the Market Risk Advisory Committee, which advises the CFTC on matters relating to evolving market structures and the movement of risk across clearinghouses, exchanges, intermediaries, market makers and end users;
  • Commissioner Mark Wetjen, as sponsor of the Global Markets Advisory Committee, which advises the CFTC on matters that affect the integrity and competitiveness of U.S. markets and U.S. firms engaged in global business; and
  • Commissioner Mark Wetjen, as the first commissioner to sponsor the Technology Advisory Committee, which advises the CFTC on the impact and implications of technological innovations on financial services and the futures and swaps markets. Sponsorship of the Technology Advisory Committee will be shared among the Commissioners on a rotating basis.
