New York Attorney General Recaps 2020 Enforcement Actions

In a 2020 Year in Review Report, New York Attorney General Letitia James highlighted actions taken to protect consumers during the pandemic, lawsuits against Big Tech and enforcement efforts to combat fraud and money laundering.

Among other actions, the Attorney General noted:

  • a lawsuit against Facebook, targeting its "buy or bury" strategy (i.e., buying out or cutting services to competing companies);
  • a lawsuit against Google for anticompetitive conduct, including allegations that the company utilized exclusionary contracts, discriminated against specialized search sites, and the used search engine tools to disadvantage competitors;
  • a settlement of an action against Dunkin' Donuts in connection with a series of 2015 cyberattacks; and
  • enforcement actions involving financial crimes, including those related to improper subprime auto lending practices, fraudulent investment schemes targeting seniors, and money laundering operations.

The Attorney General stated that her Office collected over $994 million in recovery and restitution.
