CFTC Commissioner Chilton Interview in Energy Metro Desk on DF Lobbying (with Lofchie Comment)
The Energy Metro Desk has published a short interview with CFTC Commissioner Bart Chilton in which the Commissioner confirms that lobbying on Dodd-Frank issues is continuing, albeit on how the rules will impact firms' business, and in which he opines that there is zero chance that Dodd-Frank will be subject to a substantial redo.
Lofchie Comment: In the interview, Commissioner Chilton describes financial "lobbyists" as having descended on the CFTC "like a plague." Speaking as someone who has been consistently critical of Dodd-Frank, as well as of some of the implementing rules, the description strikes me as worrisome. I believe that I descend more like a spring rain over a dry field, which is to say that my objections to the statute and the rulemaking are based on, I believe, common sense and good public policy on policy and not a belief that repeal of Dodd-Frank would make me money. This I would argue is against any personal financial interest as incredibly complicated regulations are generally good for lawyers - at least in the long run, and assuming that the financial industry is not completely exported.
