OFAC Adds Saudi Officials to Specially Designated Nationals List

The U.S. Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC") designated 17 Saudi government officials for their alleged role in the killing of a Saudi journalist. This action was taken pursuant to Executive Order 13818, which expands upon the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act (targeting "serious human rights abuse and corruption").

Pursuant to the action, any property or interests in property within U.S. jurisdiction of the designated individuals is blocked. OFAC also noted that U.S. persons are generally prohibited from transacting with blocked persons or entities that are 50 percent or more owned by these designated persons.
