CFTC Reports $16 Million Awarded to Whistleblowers in Fiscal Year 2023
The CFTC reported that over the past fiscal year, it granted seven applications totaling approximately $16 million in cases in which individuals voluntarily provided original information that led to successful enforcement actions.
In its 2023 Annual Report to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the House Agriculture Committee, the CFTC said that 1,530 whistleblower tips and complaints and 301 whistleblower award applications were filed. The report covered the fiscal period from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. The CFTC also stated that the available balance of the Customer Protection Fund, the fund used to pay whistleblower awards and fund customer education initiatives, is $261,359,297.
