CFTC Commissioner Behnam to Lead MRAC, Remaining Committees Get Temporary Sponsors
The CFTC named Commissioner Rostin Behnam as sponsor of the Market Risk Advisory Committee ("MRAC"). MRAC advises the CFTC on evolving market structures and the movement of risk across clearinghouses, exchanges, intermediaries, market makers and end users. Mr. Behnam said that he will solicit feedback from market participants across the nation to get a broad perspective on how the CFTC can "better adapt its regulations to continually support the safest, most transparent, and deepest financial markets in the world."
Mr. Behnam will also sponsor the Agricultural Advisory Committee on a temporary basis. The Agricultural Advisory Committee is responsible for advising the CFTC regarding the trading of agricultural commodity futures, options and swaps, and facilitating communication with agriculture-related organizations.
CFTC Commissioner Brian Quintenz – the current sponsor of the Technology Advisory Committee – will serve as temporary sponsor of the Global Markets Advisory Committee, which advises on the integrity and competitiveness of U.S. markets and U.S. firms engaged in global business. CFTC Chair J. Christopher Giancarlo will continue in his current role as sponsor of the Energy and Environmental Markets Advisory Committee.
