OFAC Sanctions North Korean Officials

The U.S. Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC") sanctioned seven individuals and three entities associated with the North Korean government. The sanctions were issued in connection with ongoing human rights abuses.

Military officials of the North Korean government were sanctioned pursuant to Executive Order 13687 for: (i) furthering activities of the military and secret police, (ii) the forced repatriation of asylum seekers, and (iii) furthering a system of forced labor. The sanctioned individuals are Jo Kyong-Chol, Sin Yong Il, Ri Thae Chol, Ku Sung Sop, Kim Min Chol, Jong Yong Su and Kim Kang Jin.

The Military Security Command, the External Construction Bureau and the Ch'olhyo'n Overseas Construction Company were sanctioned pursuant to Executive Order 13722. The Orders freeze property, or interest in property, within the U.S. belonging to these sanctioned individuals and entities. Transactions by U.S. persons involving these individuals and entities are prohibited.
