OFAC Sanctions Venezuela's Military Counterintelligence Agency

OFAC designated the Government of Venezuela's General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence ("DGCIM") "for operating in Venezuela’s defense and security sector." OFAC highlighted the DGCIM's involvement in human rights abuses and the "politically motivated" arrest and murder of Venezuelan Navy Captain Rafael Acosta Arévelo. This action was taken pursuant to Executive Order 13850.

All property and interests in property of this entity, as well as any entities owned 50 percent or more by it, that are in the United States, or are in the possession or control of U.S. persons, are now blocked and must be reported to OFAC. Additionally, OFAC regulations generally prohibit any dealings by U.S. persons, or within the United States, that involve this entity, its property or its interests in property.
