SEC Sets Comment Deadline for Proposal to Rescind Climate Disclosure Rules

The SEC set a comment deadline of August 3, 2026, on its proposal to rescind climate-related disclosure rules.

The proposal would rescind a rule requiring public companies to disclose climate-related information - including greenhouse gas emissions, the management of climate-related risks, and the financial statement effects of severe weather events - in their registration statements and annual reports. The agency argued that the rules exceeded the limits Congress placed on its disclosure authority under the Securities Act and the Exchange Act.

The comment deadline was published in the Federal Register.
