IOSCO Reports Results from Annual Hedge Fund Survey

In a new report, IOSCO analyzed results from its annual survey of the global hedge fund industry.

In the Hedge Fund Survey, IOSCO provided data relating to fund liquidity, collateral, exposures and leverage. IOSCO's findings included, among other things, that:

  • the number of hedge funds and assets under management is continuing to grow;

  • multi-strategy funds and equity long/short funds are the most common investment strategies;

  • equities exposures (both cash securities and derivatives) are the largest positions held by hedge funds, while on a gross exposure basis, interest rate and FX derivatives remain the largest positions held by hedge funds; and

  • liquidity is adequate to meet investor redemption requests in normal times.
