SEC Chairman Elisse Walter Delivers Opening Remarks at the Foreign Bribery and Corruption Training Conference (with Lofchie Comment and Music Selection)
SEC Chairman Elisse Walter gave opening remarks at the Foreign Bribery and Corruption Training Conference. Here are some of her main points:
- Chairman Walter acknowledged the diversity of the financial regulatory agencies around the globe and their different purposes and laws, but emphasized the importance of fair and honest financial markets for economic growth which can only be achieved by collaboration;
- Functioning financial systems are not only a question of complying with the law, but also a matter of nation-building;
- Stable financial markets create a cycle of international trade that benefits everyone involved;
- Failure to enforce laws in our globalized economy can create a disadvantage for companies and economic inefficiencies for some countries.
- The SEC will work collaboratively to investigate and end harmful practices that danger economies and shareholders;
- Chairman Walter sees an increasing fight against corruption in the U.S. and is pleased with the increasing collaboration among nations in the fight for fair and honest markets.
Lofchie Comment: Next year, I think they should rename the conference something along the lines of the ANTI-Bribery and Corruption Training Conference.
