CFTC Enforcement Director Steps Down

Ian McGinley, Director of the CFTC's Division of Enforcement, will step down on January 17, 2025.

Mr. McGinley was appointed Director in February 2023. In a statement, CFTC Chair Rostin Behnam summarized Mr. McGinley's tenure as follows: "under Ian's leadership, the Division has brought first of their kind cases in both traditional and emerging markets, published cutting-edge guidance, and reorganized and consolidated our analytical units to strengthen the agency's ability to detect misconduct."

In the news release, the CFTC highlighted that under Mr. McGinley's leadership, the Division oversaw the establishment of two task forces, Cybersecurity and Emerging Technology and Environmental Fraud, and the creation of a new office dedicated to surveillance and data analytics.
