Commodity Options

Overview

The CFTC generally has authority over commodity options, which is to say generally over all options other than those on securities and securities indices. While commodity options are now within the CFTC regulatory definition of a "swap," there are some eccentricities to that definition, as well as some eccentricities as to the regulation of commodity options, particularly those that may settle by physical delivery of the underlying asset, rather than by payment of a cash value amount.
