The SEC amended Privacy Act regulations that are applicable to the Commission (not the regulations that apply to registrants) to eliminate unnecessary provisions and introduce electronic methods for identity verification and Privacy Act requests.
SEC Commissioner Mark T. Uyeda touted the benefits of new technologies for markets, investors and regulators. He argued that "[j]ust because something is new does not mean that regulators should fear it and preclude financial institutions from utilizing it."
The SEC directed FINRA and the equity exchanges to submit a new national market system plan to replace the three current national market system plans.
